I heard only crickets and the soft harmony of our beagle pup and our pittbull as they breathed deep into their dreamworlds. It’s a sound I usually stop and relish in as I begin to wake in the early mornings. This morning, however, held a different type of moment and I was ready to soak up. Wide awake before the sun even began to yawn above the horizon I was on edge, ready to set off on an adventure.

Earlier in the week I’d meandered past a beautiful palette of rust, deep wine, and magentas accented by dots of black and gold. I couldn’t stop at the time to explore this field of flowers, however, I knew I HAD to photograph there. Immediately, Sarah, came to mind. She’d been wanting to shoot in a field. My mind quickly went to painting - dark hues in contrast with rich warm light and just a touch of cool blues and whitened yellows splattered across my brain’s canvas.

This will be perfect.

So, I reached out and let her know about the opportunity - swiftly going to work and piecing all the elements together to create the perfect portrait session. Things couldn’t have worked out better. She was available at just the right light and had just the right outfit coming to her in the mail.

And so I set out that morning - without even a coffee in hand - wild eyed and full of excitement, ready to create some beautiful portraits. We we’re meeting the sun, capturing every important moment in a 13 minute window. Precision was key.

Bre, my assistant, joined us to help craft the flow of Sarah’s gown. The sky was perfect. The weather couldn’t have been better. In all, it was magic. We even were joined by a cricket or two who were surprised we met them at the dawn.
